Still not missing Google Reader

It's mid-April and I still don't regret getting rid of Google Reader.  Twitter is so much easier to use and manage.  Twitter, for me, is probably my favorite site/service on the web.  Not only is it a type of communication, but it is also a real-time news source.  I hardly even use my Facebook account any more. Facebook is a bloated mess, but that's another post. Long live Twitter!

Three Weeks With the Cr-48

I got my Cr-48 on January 29th. I've now had a chance to play with it over the last 3 weeks and feel like now is a good time to share my thoughts on it.  In terms of hardware, the Cr-48 is a great device.  All black in color, an amazingly comfortable keyboard, and over 8 hours of battery life make this computer easily the best one I have ever used, hardware-wise.  As for Chrome OS, I was initially put off from it when I first realized that it was basically just the Chrome browser.  However, after switching to the development channel and seeing the big speed and performance increases, I must say the future looks bright for this OS.  The instant sleep and wake is simply amazing.  Even booting after a shutdown takes only 10 seconds or so.  The OS continues to get better with every release.  That said, Chrome OS has a long way to go.  Many of the most basic things like access to the file system, playing media such as music or video from local storage, and others are either non-existent or very, very primitive at this point.  Still, the Chrome OS team is hard at work cranking out new releases and is sticking to Google's strict development schedule.  So all of the issues I have now with Chrome OS will be solved by the time the retail machines launch later this year.  Overall, I'd say that Chrome OS is very promising and I look forward to seeing where it goes in the years ahead.

Goodbye Reader, Hello Twitter!

For the last month or so, I have been relying primarily on twitter for my daily news feed.  Twitter is much more real-time than reader is.  I can follow not only individuals, but also companies, brands, you name it.  Thus twitter is both a real-time news feed as well as a type of communication.  It is definitely an evolution when compared to reader. I have been periodically checking in on my feeds on reader, just to make sure I didn't miss anything important.  To my surprise, I hadn't.  So now I am going to permanently retire my reader account and stick with twitter.  However, this could get interesting if reader does something this year that totally blows my mind.
